Professor Erik Duval, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, BE

Erik Duval is a professor in the research unit on human-computer interaction, at the computer science department of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. His research focuses on management of and access to structured and unstructured data. In practical terms, he researches repositories, federated search, harvesting, content management, but also more end user oriented aspects like information visualization, mobile information devices, multi-touch displays and mash-ups. He typically applies his results to technology enhanced learning, access to music and 'research2.0′.

Dr. Claudio Dondi, Scienter, IT

Claudio Dondi, born in Modena in 1958 and an industrial economist as a university background, is the President of SCIENTER – a non-profit research organisation based in Bologna and active Europe-wide in the field of innovation of education and training systems – since its establishment in 1988. In this position his main activities are the co-ordination of large national and European projects, as well as policy advice and evaluation at regional, national and international level. His other positions include: President of EFQUEL – the European Foundation for Quality in eLearning, Member of the Board of the MENON EEIG (enabling eLearning) in Brussels, Member of the Editorial Board of the British Journal of Educational Technology. From 2001 to 2008 he has been Vice-President of EIfEL – the European Institute for e-learning and from 2001 to 2006 Vice-President of EDEN – the European Distance Education Network.

Dr. N. Kastis, Lambrakis Foundation, GR

Dr N. Kastis has a First Honours Degree in Engineering and a Ph.D. in Financial Management and Project Evaluation. He has been Research Associate in the National Technical University of Athens and Assistant Professor in the Technical University of Crete. He joined the Lambrakis (Research) Foundation in early 1992, taking over the responsibility of its programmes and innovative actions, many of them dealing with and assessing the impact of the deployment of ICT-based applications in the Society, the Education and Culture, as well as with the enhancement, validation and mainstreaming of innovations in learning systems.

He is, currently the Director of the Foundation, after its recent reorganization, responsible for all its activities, while serving as the President of the Board of Directors of the MENON Network (European Economic Interest Group active in the field of Research and Innovation in Learning, in Europe and across the world). He is also currently Member of the Advisory Board of the European Learning Industry Group (ELIG) and participates in a number of study and support to policy making projects and initiatives in Europe, for the European Commission and other national and European stakeholders.

Professor Kirsti Lonka, University of Helsinki, FI

Kirsti Lonka is Professor of educational psychology and Director of the Research Group of Educational Psychology, University of Helsinki, Finland. She was also Visiting Professor in University of Groningen in Netherlands (2007-2008). She has worked as Professor of medical education at the Department of LIME (Learning, Informatics. Management and Ethics), Karolinska Institutet in 2001-2005. She finished her Master of Arts Degree in psychology and started her research career as a Junior Lecturer, Department of Psychology, and University of Helsinki in 1986. Kirsti Lonka finished her Licentiate Thesis in 1994 and her PhD at the Department of Psychology, University of Helsinki, in 1997. She has published numerous refereed articles, conference papers and book chapters. She has also published plenty of text books and popular writings. The languages of her publications are Finnish, English, and Swedish (also translated in Estonian). Her specialties are higher education, medical education and postgraduate education (PhD students). In the area of academic writing, her work has focused around note taking, process writing, portfolios and writing across curriculum (writing as a learning tool).

Assistant Prof. Costa Tsolakidis, University of the Aegean, GR

Costas Tsolakidis, born in Piraeus, Greece, is a Professor in the Department of Education at Greece's University of the Aegean. He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Electronics from the University of Dundee in Scotland.

A multi-talented expert in the fields of Open and Distance Learning, innovative learning methods, ICT in training and lifelong learning and ICT in multi-grade schools, he is a highly demanded consultant, coordinator and partner for several organisations and projects. These include the Comenius3 Network funded by the European Union and some efforts sponsored by the Greek government.
